Up at 7.15 this morning so we could take some photos of the Campo di Miracoli without people everywhere. Decided to walk around Pisa today off the beaten track east and south of the city, drinking and eating snacks along the way. Intermittent rain again all day with a tremendous lightning strike over the city followed immediately by a crack of thunder. Beat a hasty retreat back to the hotel. Spent an hour in the University Botanical Gardens where the highlight was a greenhouse full of cacti. Strolled back to the Leaning Tower ostensibly to buy a T shirt or two but really to smile at the happy tourists holding up the leaning tower for photographs.
Ate at La Tana where we had crostini and bruschetta for starters and rib eye steak and chips to follow. Very nice meal – cost 55€.
