Augsburg to Nordlingen – 18 July 2011

After a great breakfast at the Hotel Arborea (where Tony messed up the tablecloth with his boiled egg), the journey to Nordlingen was unremarkable in that we did not get lost!  Nordlingen is a very attractive town built in the crater made by a meteorite 35 million years ago.

Showers with sunshine today.  We ambled around for 3 hours dodging the showers before we could get into the hotel room.  We had to wear our coats and bought an umbrella. Nordlingen is not a large town but it is full of 15th and 16th century houses – city was virtually abandoned after the 30 Years War – but here’s the rub – these ancient houses all look like new-build.  It brings to mind that old comedy sketch where two gardeners are comparing old spades:-  mine has had 4 new blades and 5 new shafts.  The character and feeling of most of the houses is no longer present.

In the afternoon we went to see Harry Potter in 3D and then out for a meal at a bar/restaurant where we had “a small fitness steak”.  Small portions?  No chance!  Jane nibbled hers while Tony ate as much as he wanted.  Most went into the bin.  Home at 10.45.
The roofer's nightmare.
