Rain overnight! But it stopped just after breakfast and we drove to Verona in increasingly hot and humid weather. Despite roadworks, a traffic jam and non-existent road signs we found the apartment and the landlady gave us lots of info, showed us where to park the car and gave us a parking pass. She will do our washing for us tomorrow! Even she was hot and sweaty so what hope do us pale English folk have.
After unloading clothes we went shopping for food for the next couple of days. Had boiled egg for lunch! Then nap and talked about taking the train from here to Milan and Venice. Checked train times for both and they will need early starts to avoid heat.
By the time we checked the Box Office opening times for the Opera it had closed but we walked to the arena anyway – useless map – got lost. Verona is much busier than either of us remember.
Returned to evening meal of roast chicken with veg prepared by Tony.
The Roman amphitheatre where the opera are staged. |
