Had breakfast at Hotel America and left Trento about 9.15. Took wrong exit at a roundabout but turned around and sorted it out easily. We arrived at Brixen (German name for Italian Bressanone) about 10.45 and it is a very nice place – very alpine and more German than Italian. Room was not ready so parked car in garage – Hotel Gruner Baum €129 – it’s a Best Western Hotel.
Had a nice lunch of melon and ham and Tony had proper roast beef salad. Lots of German spoken here and we don’t understand a word of it!
Back to the hotel to find there is no air conditioning. Cheapskates. But it does have 2 pools, a fitness room, a sauna etc – just what we want! So we went to Reception and got a fan – eventually. In the afternoon we booked our next hotel in Mittenwald, Germany, high in the Alps.
During the evening we ate at a Biergarten surrounded by Germans – it felt like the infamous episode of Fawlty Towers! Jane had Weiner Schnitzel and chips and Tony had Penne with a strange pesto sauce. Not a brill choice. The huge portions overfaced us before we started eating. Home at 10.10 to a hot but fan assisted windy room.
Hotel Gruner Baum - better on the outside than the inside. |

I wouldn't like to meet the birds that nest in these boxes! |
