We set off rather early today without bothering the caterers because we hadn’t any accommodation booked for tonight. We drove through some typical English countryside except bordered by the Alps to our left. We drove through several villages until we came to Peiting, where we saw signs for a fleamarket. The similarities the English and Germans exhibit are becoming more obvious the longer we stay. Jane bought a watch for €3 as the existing one has a crack in the glass. Otherwise it was pretty much the same things you see at English Car Boot sales.
Stopped at Schongau and booked in at the Hotel Blaue Traube, (blue grape) for €82. We ambled around an antiseptic, clean, well painted, spotless place with no outstanding buildings or particular interest. There was a market in the square selling various fast foods and stalls of “ethnic” type things. Had a hot dog and salami sandwiches for lunch and then came back to hotel for rest.
After a walk in the evening we came back to hotel to eat and had a nice meal of wiener schnitzel for Tony and pork with mushrooms in a cream sauce for Jane. Still fairly early so strolled back to the square to find it teeming with locals eating and drinking at the long tables and eventually a band started playing – M People and Hot Gossip type stuff- all in English. Great atmosphere. All very friendly and happy. Back to the hotel for a cup of tea and sleep. Evenings are no longer sultry now but cooler and dewy, making sleep easier for us.
