Pisa – Lucca – Pisa – 30 June 2011
Today we took the train to Lucca to show Sian around the walled city. We still found piazzas and monuments we had missed before but after lunch the town got so hot that even light walking became a burden. The train back to Pisa had no air conditioning and we arrived back at 4.00 absolutely shattered.
We are questioning the sanity of what we are doing at the moment – we travel during the only cool part of the day to the next port of call and by the time we have got some accommodation and parked the car the day’s temperature is in the high 30’s, thus sightseeing is onerous.
Had a sleep when we got back to hotel and then went out for evening drink in a seedy piazza full of students celebrating the end of term. Then a meal of salady bits that cost 83€ - rip off – but nice evening just the same once the temperature had dropped.
