Not a good night for Tony – bed too short! Managed to choose the wrong road leaving Mittenwald but made fine progress in the drizzle. The temperature is only 13C – be careful what you wish for!
We stopped at one of King Ludwig ll’s follies – Lindenhof palace. Lots of visitors and we managed to lose car in car park!
Arrived in Fussen and got a list of hotels from the tourist information, and, after rejecting one hotel because the beds were too short, found a room at the hotel Ludwig at €78. Getting the car to the hotel car park was very stressful as it was situated in a pedestrian zone. We had lunch at the hotel, a sausage and sauerkraut platter (8 sausages!) and a cheese salad and fries. We must have left well over half the food – what a waste. Planned the trip up the Romantic Road – we’ll see how difficult the logistics become after 1 or 2 more stops.
In the evening, we ventured out and found a pleasant restaurant called “Ambiente” where the waiting staff again were very helpful. We had Caesar salad and hamburger which were very tasty but the size of the meals were offputting.
Back to the hotel at 10:30 to a thick duvet each, a flat pillow and no top sheet on the bed, thus ensuring a intermittent sleep for the both of us.
