Bracciano to Pisa – 29 June 2011

Long journey today to Pisa – approx. 225 miles.  Left Bracciano at about 7.15 but did not find the autostrada for another 45 minutes (!).  Once through Civitavecchia, an ugly industrial town, progress was rapid.  The motorways are relatively quiet, with few heavy lorries, but perhaps this is not so surprising as Italy puts a lot of emphasis on regional foods and freshness.  It’s climate allows almost anything to be grown anywhere.  Arrived in Pisa at 11.30 and negotiated the inner city roads very successfully and sneaked into the Hotel without violating the congestion cameras.

Sian went to see the sights with us.  We had lunch and then a hot rest – our room has no air conditioning.  After dinner in the evening the local churches were throwing open their doors to the infidels so we visited a couple.  It was a kind of crafty Roman Catholic enrolment campaign to capture the waverers.  One or two more pictures were taken of the tower in the twilight – then home.
