Mantova – 4 July 2011

Later than usual getting up today, about 8.15ish and went down for breakfast.  Cereal, tasteless toast with tasteless butter but there was plenty of other choices, even scrambled egg and bacon (of sorts).

Was a bit cloudier this morning so went for a walk alongside all 3 lakes.  Nicely laid out with grassy banks and paths.  There were a series of scientific games for children (of all ages) describing principles of movement, light, sound etc.  For example there were two parabolic reflectors that amplified your voice across a field.  Saw a leafhopper (kind of heron) fishing on the lily pads. If anyone is interested, James Blunt is playing here later this month!

Went to local bar for simple lunch of sandwiches and pastries then back to hotel for a rest as the heat was building up.  Did not really stir from room again until evening when we went for evening meal.  30°C at 8.00pm and returned to same restaurant as last night.  Sea bass baked in sliced potatoes for Tony and strips of fillet steak for Jane.  Quieter than last night but of course not so many tourists on a Monday.

Back to hotel at 10.00 – 27°C
Heron fishing on lily pads (zoom in for a better view).

Signore Barnaby thinks about testing the water temperature.

Statue of Virgil. No sign of Scott, Gordon, Alan...

Queue for local hairdressers very slow moving.

Piazza Erbe - Where we dined very well.

Church of  San Andrea
